STATE BUDGET - breaking the bank & our backs

Back to the basics with line item vetoes
What are your tax dollars buying you, aside from a lot of government oversight in the form of City, County, and State employees and officials?

How does $700,000 to create a "working" group to help guide the States new Fair Pay to Play Act sound? This is the Act that allows college athletes to receive endorsement deals.

What about $1.3 million in litigation costs for environmental lawsuits that our State has filed against the Trump administration, claiming it is to defend provisions of the Endangered Species Act?

How does $2.7 million for a new law to impose a moratorium (a temporary prohibition of an activity, temporary) on bobcat hunting sound?

Is $2 million reasonable for the smoking ban on California State beaches and parks?

And given our disposable nature, can you believe that the State budget is increasing the Caltrans Litter Abatement Program by $31.8 million dollars? Thats an additional increase to the normal budget.

Typically, the Governor has 12 working days to sign the budget bill. The Governor also has the authority to "blue pencil" (reduce or eliminate) any appropriation contained in the budget.

The Legislature can override any blue-penciled item by a 2/3 vote in both houses. In practice, the Legislature rarely overrides a budget veto.

First and foremost, we believe that we need a Governor that is going to step up and use the "blue pencil" on these useless expenditures that fraudulently waste tax payer dollars.

We then need to prioritize the issues facing our State to best benefit the people, not the self interest of politicians and lobbyists. What needs to be done, and how soon. A results driven budget to address the needs of the people.
